Out of hours – emergency care provision

Pet Medic Recruitment is currently recruiting for Out Of Hours Veterinary Surgeons and Nurses to work in both Locum and Permanent capacities, across the UK. All practices are required by the RCVS to provide some form of out-of-hours emergency service. In areas where there are sufficient vets within a reasonable distance an Out-of-hours service provider is one way of fulfilling this obligation. This solution employs dedicated staff to provide the service. This allows ‘day time’ staff to concentrate on their duties without having to juggle additional evening and weekend hours.

With over 250 practices around the UK, CVS Group is one of the largest organisations of veterinary care providers. Until now their practices have either relied on staff taking their turn On Call or using an outsourced On Call Service Providers. However, CVS has decided to appoint teams of professionals dedicated to providing Out of Hours cover for a number of their sites. Consequently this has opened up a number of Locum and Permanent vacancies throughout the UK.

CVS out-of-hours centres provide services mainly for their own practices. This means that there is usually direct access to patient records from all the participating practices. It also facilitates the transfer of patients between clinics and reduces the need to send patients back to their home clinics by a set time each morning. These crucial differences allow these clinics to provide a better patient and client service than has previously been possible.

Working as an Out Of Hours Vet or Nurse has many benefits, particularly for those professionals trying to balance a home life with their career, or for those studying for further qualifications or pursuing other interests. Working one week out of three, these roles compare very favourably with similar positions offered by other Out Of Hours providers. And of course, in recognition of the unsociable hours, the financial rewards are considerable!
